Hello Shark Parents,
My name is Molly Dorsey, and I am so excited to be serving as the Sharks Team Manager this summer. I will be your go-to person for all volunteer jobs at meets so that Coach Cheri can focus on coaching our kids. My husband Jon and I have 2 boys, Luke, age 7, and Hunter, age 5, and this is our family’s 3rd year on the Sharks.
Meet Entries and Volunteer Signups are now open for the June 3rd meet. Warm-ups will start at 8AM and the meet will begin at 9AM. It will be a modified meet; swimmers will only be allowed to swim 1 or 2 individual events, and we will only swim free relays. Swimmers need to be registered by noon on Wednesday, May 29th to be put in the meet. You need to register your swimmer even if you aren't attending. Please log on to brookhaven.swimtopia.com and RSVP for the meet and choose your volunteer position.
As you will see this summer, the Brookhaven Sharks are the best, and what makes us stand apart from the other teams are our dedicated parent volunteers. With roughly 220 kids on our team, it takes all of us to make our meets run smoothly!
On the Wednesday before each meet, we will open up the volunteer sign-up on our team site on Swimtopia (brookhaven.swimtopia.com). Please log in each week to volunteer for at least one position per family. If you sign up for your child to attend a meet and do not sign up for a volunteer spot, we will assign you one. Be sure to sign up early to ensure you get the job that you want.
There is a volunteer job for everyone. Many of our jobs are for half the meet, so you can serve early or late as your schedule allows. Jobs and job descriptions are below:
| Starter Assistant | Assist with changing event numbers and helping the starter to ensure the events run smoothly and continuously. You will have the best seat in the house! We will need 2 volunteers at each meet (each volunteer will work ½ the meet.) | | Meet Entries & Ribbons | Best for parents with older swimmers.Volunteers will collect time cards and input swimmer's times into the computer during the meet. This job is all in the shade and you have a great view of the action. We need three volunteers per shift at each meet. The volunteers will work ½ the meet. | | Shark Cove Parent (Assistant to the Age-Group Parent) | The Shark Cove Parent will be the “go-to” parent for their age-group swimmers. The responsibilities of the SCP will include: writing event numbers and swimmer's names on the swimmer’s hands and shoulder, pulling together the relays for your assigned age group and sitting in the age group area to monitor your swimmers. We will need 4 parents per age group per gender at each meet. This job runs the entirety of the meet, but 6 and under parents are often able to leave after backstroke. | | Timers | You will be responsible for timing ½ of a meet. Timers will time the swimmer’s race and record the time on the time card. We will need 12 timers for each meet (each volunteer will work ½ the meet). Timers switch shifts after event 35 (IM). | | Heat Winner Awards | You will be responsible for awarding each heat winner a small gift. We will need 2 volunteers at each meet (each volunteer will work ½ the meet.) | | Meet Host/ Hospitality | You will be responsible for bringing water to the timers, coaches, and other volunteers during each meet. We will need 2 volunteers at each meet (each volunteer will work ½ the meet.) | | Meet Clean-Up | Best for parents who stay until end of meet or need to come late. We need 6 volunteers to stay after our home meets to help clean up and put away our team supplies. This is a great job if you can’t commit to working half of a meet. I don’t think we need all 8 and that way folks can do stuff during the meet:-)! |

If you are unable to volunteer consistently, you may log on to Swimtopia and opt-out of volunteering for $250.
